Flashbacks

Flashbacks are vivid, intrusive memories of past events, often traumatic, that can cause distress and disrupt daily life, common in PTSD.

What are Flashbacks?

Flashbacks are intense, involuntary memories or re-experiences of past traumatic events, often seen in individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). During a flashback, a person may feel as though they are reliving the event, which can be distressing and disrupt daily activities. Flashbacks are triggered by cues related to the original trauma, such as sounds or smells.

Therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) are effective in reducing the frequency and intensity of flashbacks.
